Jamf Protect Deployment and Updates

You can complete a first deployment of the Jamf Protect PKG to computers using one of the following methods: 

  • If the Automatically deploy the Jamf Protect PKG with plans checkbox is selected, the PKG is automatically deployed to any computers with a Jamf Protect plan configuration profile. No additional steps are needed. 

  • If you manually downloaded and uploaded the PKG to Jamf Pro, you must use a policy. 

When a new version of Jamf Protect is available, Jamf Pro will send users a notification in Jamf Pro and via email, if configured. Updates can be installed using one of the following methods: 

  • If the Enable AutoUpdate checkbox is selected in the Jamf Protect plan settings, updates are installed automatically. 

  • Manually by deploying the new Jamf Protect PKG using a policy.

Deploying the Jamf Protect Package Using a Policy

You can deploy the Jamf Protect PKG using a policy.

  1. In Jamf Pro, click Computers at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Click Policies in the sidebar.
  3. Click New .
  4. Use the General payload to configure basic settings for the policy, including the trigger and execution frequency.
  5. Select the Packages payload and click Configure.
  6. Click Add for the Jamf Protect PKG.
  7. Specify a distribution point for computers to download the package from.
  8. Choose Install from the Action pop-up menu.
  9. Use the Restart Options payload to configure settings for restarting computers.
  10. Click the Scope tab and configure the scope of the policy.
  11. Click Save .

The policy runs on computers in the scope the next time they check in with Jamf Pro and meet the criteria in the General payload.
