Configure the User Experience

You can use Jamf Pro to configure the experience of Microsoft Office for your users. Configuring the user experience involves customizing the look and feel of the software, configuring privacy settings and settings that control how notifications for Microsoft Office are displayed to the user.

You can create configuration profiles in Jamf Pro to customize the following aspects of Microsoft Office:

  • Default settings—Jamf Pro allows you to access the default settings of Microsoft Office to apply the values you want to customize Microsoft Office for your users. You can access these settings directly in the Jamf Pro interface. For example, you can configure the welcome behavior when a user opens the app.

  • Privacy settings—You can configure the Privacy Preferences Policy Control payload to configure settings to allow or deny access to applications and services within a target computer's Security & Privacy preferences pane. Configuring the privacy settings ensures that the Jamf Management Framework can communicate with Microsoft Office installed on target computers. For example, you can allow both Terminal and Jamf Pro to control Microsoft AutoUpdate.
You can configure these settings using the following:

    • Configure the Privacy Preferences Policy Control payload in configuration profiles

    • Upload a complete configuration profile ( .mobileconfig ) to Jamf Pro in configuration profiles

  • Notification settings—You can upload a complete configuration profile (.mobileconfig) directly to Jamf Pro that defines the settings to ensure the appropriate alerts about updates and application events are displayed to end users. For example, you can allow Microsoft AutoUpdate to send notifications to the end user when updates are available.

Note: It is recommended you create a new configuration profile for each aspect of the user experience.

For more information, see Computer Configuration Profiles in the Jamf Pro Administrator's Guide.
