Creating a Class

This feature may not be supported on your Teacher app depending on the software your school uses to manage devices and the settings your school has configured.

The Teacher app has two kinds of classes: managed classes and custom classes. Managed classes are created by your school's IT department and are assigned to you.

If permitted by your school's IT department, you can create custom classes from the Teacher app. Students in close proximity to your device are invited to join the classroom or can join manually from the Student app by entering a code.

  1. In the Teacher app sidebar, tap Classes.
  2. Tap New Class.
  3. Enter a class name and description.
  4. Select a color for the class.
  5. Tap Save.
  6. Do one of the following to add devices to the class:
    • To add available iPads with Shared iPad enabled, tap Shared iPads.

    • To manually add students, tap Add Students.

    Students may be prompted to join the class on their devices. If they do not receive a notification, they can navigate to Settings > Student app > Join Class on their device and enter the 4-digit code.
