Migrating Data from Apple Configurator to Apple Configurator 2

When moving from Apple Configurator to Apple Configurator 2, you must migrate your data from the old sqlite3 database in Apple Configurator to the Apple Configurator 2 decentralized file structure.

Requirements

To migrate settings from Apple Configurator to Apple Configurator 2, you need to download Apple Configurator 2 from the Mac App Store.

  1. To get started, first back up your computer. A clone is recommended, as with certificates, profiles, and databases. Once you have a solid backup, open the new Apple Configurator 2 app and then click on the Next button at the Introduction screen.

  2. At the Library Migration screen, select each of the types of data that you’d like to migrate and click on the Next button.

  3. At the Device Backups screen, you will have the option to select any backups that should be migrated to the new location and structure. Check the box for any you’d like to migrate and then click on the Next button.

  4. At the Convert Device Configurations to Blueprints screen, you’ll have the option to save each of your unique configurations from Apple Configurator (from the prepare screen) to what are now known as Blueprints in Apple Configurator 2. Select any that you’d like to convert and click Next.

  5. You’ll then be shown what is going to get migrated. Click on Next if this is correct.

  6. Finally, choose where it all goes. Provided that all the data is migrated properly, you’ll then be shown a Migration Successful screen.

That’s it. Now you’ll be looking at the Getting Started screen.
