There are two kinds of classes in Jamf Teacher: assigned classes and custom classes. Assigned classes are classes created in Jamf School that are assigned to the teacher. You can create a class in Jamf School by clicking Classes and adding students and teachers to a new class. These classes appear on the Jamf Teacher dashboard.

Custom classes are ad-hoc classes created by the teacher from the Jamf Teacher app. Students in close proximity to the teacher are invited to join the classroom or can join manually in Jamf School Student by entering a code. Teachers can create classes by tapping or clicking Classes > New Class and adding a class name, description, and students. Student devices will then receive a prompt to join the class.

Note: Teachers must accept prompts to allow Jamf Teacher to access iBeacons and Locations to add student devices to the class.

Lessons allow teachers to configure which apps, websites, resources, and built-in apps students can use during lessons such as Math or English, ensuring students only access apps and websites that are related to the subject they are currently learning. Teachers can create lessons by tapping or clicking Lessons on the Jamf Teacher dashboard. Once teachers create a lesson, they can start a lesson by tapping or clicking a class and Start Lesson.

When creating lessons, teachers can also add lesson resources such as websites or Google Drive or Dropbox documents. Lesson resources are available to students while the lesson is active. Teachers can add resources to a lesson in two ways. The first method is to navigate to the website or document they want to share and tap the Share icon, and then tap Jamf Teacher. The second method is to tap the lesson they want to add the resources to in Jamf Teacher, and then enter the URL in the Lesson Links field.

Messages allows teachers to send and receive messages from students, groups, and classes. Teachers can view and send messages in Jamf Teacher by tapping or clicking Messages on their dashboard.

App Requests

App Request is a feature teachers can use to request apps for students by using the App Store and Jamf Teacher. The App Requests icon on the Jamf Teacher dashboard allows teachers to see the apps they requested and the status of those requests. For more information on how teachers can request apps using App Request, see the Jamf Teacher Guide for Teachers. To use App Request, you must enable email notifications and have administrator accounts assigned to an administrator role with the "App Request" privilege. For more information, see Enabling App Request.

Help Guides

Help Guides is a feature that allows teachers to view step-by-step instructions on how to use different features in the Jamf Teacher app. Teachers can view the guides by tapping Help Guides on the app dashboard and tapping a topic.

Teachers can tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner to view and perform available operating system updates for their device, refresh their device, clear the passcode, clear activation lock, or wipe the device.
