Integrating Jamf School with Apple School Manager

By integrating Jamf School with Apple School Manager, you have access to additional settings that allow you do do the following:

  • Automatically add devices purchased through Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller to Jamf School

  • Sync Jamf School with Apple School Manager to automatically update user and class information in Jamf School. You can also force Jamf School to sync immediately with Apple School Manager.

  • Automatically create new users in Jamf School by importing users from Apple School Manager

  • Automatically create classes in Jamf School by importing classes from Apple School Manager

Integrating Jamf School with Apple School Manager involves the following steps:

  1. Adding the Jamf School server to Apple School Manager

  2. Importing school information to Apple School Manager

Adding the Jamf School Server to Apple School Manager

Requirements

If you have not already done so, you must enroll your school in Apple School Manager. For more information, see Enroll in Apple School Manager in the Apple School Manager User Guide.

Procedure

To ensure that devices you purchase through Apple and your school information is added to Jamf School, you must add the Jamf School server to Apple School Manager.

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Organization > Settings in the sidebar.

  2. Select the Devices (DEP) payload, and then click Apple School Manager.

  3. At the bottom of the Apple School Manager pop-up dialog, click Download your Public Key to download the .pem file.

  4. In Apple School Manager, upload the Jamf School public key (.pem) certificate file following the instructions in Add mobile device management (MDM) servers in Apple School Manager in Apple's Apple School Manager User Guide.

    Note: You must do this step before adding devices to Apple School Manager.

  5. In Jamf School, at the bottom of the Apple School Manager pop-up dialog, drag and drop the server token file you downloaded into the Upload DEP token field.

  6. Click Apply.

Importing School Information to Apple School Manager

Requirements

If you want to make your user data anonymous in Jamf School when importing data from Apple School Manager, navigate to Organization > Settings > Apple School Manager SFTP and select the Anonymize uploaded users checkbox. When enabled, users in Apple School Manager are linked to a number instead of a name for identification. When your data syncs with Jamf School, these numbers are linked to the corresponding user accounts in Jamf School.

Procedure

After enrolling your school in Apple School Manager, you can import school information about managers, students, staff, and classes using the Setup Assistant in Apple School Manager.
