Integrating Jamf School with Apple School Manager

By integrating Jamf School with Apple School Manager, you have access to additional settings that allow you do do the following:

  • Automatically add devices purchased through Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller to Jamf School

  • Sync Jamf School with Apple School Manager to automatically update user and class information in Jamf School. You can also force Jamf School to sync immediately with Apple School Manager. For more information, see Synchronization.

  • Automatically create new users in Jamf Pro by importing users from Apple School Manager

  • Automatically create classes in Jamf Pro by importing classes from Apple School Manager

Enrolling Your School in Apple School Manager

If you have not already done so, you must enroll your school in Apple School Manager. For more information, see Enroll in Apple School Manager in Apple's Apple School Manager User Guide.

Importing School Information to Apple School Manager

After enrolling your school in Apple School Manager, you can import school information about managers, students, staff, and classes using the Setup Assistant in Apple School Manager. For more information on how to import information using your Student Information System (SIS) or SFTP, see Integrate Apple School Manager with your Student Information System (SIS) and Import accounts into Apple School Manager using SFTP in Apple's Apple School Manager User Guide.

If you want to make your user data anonymous in Jamf School when importing data from Apple School Manager, navigate to Organization > Settings > Apple School Manager SFTP and select the Anonymize uploaded users checkbox. When enabled, users in Apple School Manager are linked to a number instead of a name for identification. When your data syncs with Jamf School, these numbers are linked to the corresponding user accounts in Jamf School.

Adding the Jamf School Server to Apple School Manager

To ensure that devices you purchase through Apple and your school information is added to Jamf School, you must add the Jamf School server to Apple School Manager.

Downloading a Public Key from Jamf School

You can download a public key (.pem) from Jamf School to obtain a server token file from Apple School Manager.

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Organization > Settings in the sidebar.

  2. Select the Devices (DEP) payload, and then click Device Enrollment Program.

  3. At the bottom of the Device Enrollment Program pop-up dialog, click Download your Public Key.

The public key (.pem) is downloaded.

Obtaining the Server Token File

You can obtain the server token file from Apple School Manager by uploading the Jamf School public key (.pem) certificate file. Apple School Manager also allows you to select which devices you want Jamf School to manage. For more information on how to obtain the server token file, see Add mobile device management (MDM) servers in Apple School Manager in Apple's Apple School Manager User Guide.

Note: It is important that you do this step before adding devices to Apple School Manager.

Uploading the Server Token File to Jamf School

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Organization > Settings in the sidebar.

  2. Select the Devices (DEP) payload, and then click Device Enrollment Program.

  3. At the bottom of the Device Enrollment Program pop-up dialog, drag and drop the server token file you downloaded into the Upload DEP token field.

  4. Click Apply.
