Configuring a Wi-Fi Profile

Using Jamf School, you can create a profile that configures Wi-Fi and networks for mobile devices and computers.

Note: If you want computers to maintain a constant connection to your active directory service, it is recommended that you create and distribute a computer profile with 802.1x ethernet configured.

Creating a Mobile Device Wi-Fi Profile

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Profiles in the sidebar.

  2. Click +Create Profile.

  3. Select the iOS operating system.

  4. Select the type of enrollment you want to make the profile for.

  5. Enter a name in the Profile name field and configure the additional settings as needed, including the removal policy and time filter.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. Use the Scope payload to configure the scope of the profile by clicking the + icon and adding device groups to the profile scope.

  8. Click the Settings images/download/thumbnails/81547569/Settings_icon.png icon, and do one of the following:

    • To install the profile on devices automatically, choose Change to automatic installation for all groups.

    • To allow users to install the profile themselves, choose Change to on-demand installation for all groups.
      The profile will be available for users to install in the Jamf Teacher or Jamf School Student apps.

  9. Click the Wi-Fi payload.

  10. Select "Wi-Fi" from the Network Interface pop-up menu.

  11. Enter the network name in the Network SSID field.

  12. Select the security type from the Security pop-up menu.

  13. Enter the network password in the Password field.

  14. Select a proxy from the Proxy Type pop-up menu and configure the proxy settings.

  15. Select a setting from the Fast Lane QoS Marking pop-up menu.

  16. Configure additional settings as needed.

  17. To add another network, click Configure a new network and repeat steps 10 through 16.

  18. Click Save.

Creating a Computer Wi-Fi Profile

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Profiles in the sidebar.

  2. Click +Create Profile.

  3. Select the macOS operating system.

  4. Select the type of enrollment you want to make the profile for.

  5. Enter a name in the Profile name field and configure the additional settings as needed, including the removal policy and time filter.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. Use the Scope payload to configure the scope of the profile by clicking the + icon and adding device groups to the profile scope.

  8. Click the Settings images/download/thumbnails/81547569/Settings_icon.png icon, and do one of the following:

    • To install the profile on devices automatically, choose Change to automatic installation for all groups.

Creating a Computer 802.1x Ethernet Profile

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Profiles in the sidebar.

  2. Click +Create Profile.

  3. Select the macOS operating system.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. Use the Scope payload to configure the scope of the profile by clicking the + icon and adding device groups to the profile scope.

  9. Click the Network payload.

  10. Select one of the ethernet types from the Network Interface pop-up menu.

  11. (Optional) To require users to authenticate the computer with the network by logging in, select the Use as a Login Window configuration checkbox.

  12. Use the Protocol tab to select the supported protocol types.

  13. Use the Trust tab to add supported certificates and servers.

  14. Select a setting from the Fast Lane QoS Marking pop-up menu.

  15. Configure additional settings as needed.

  16. To add another network, click Configure a new network and repeat steps 10 through 15.

  17. Click Save.
