Remote Commands for iPad, iPhone, and Mac

With Jamf Now, you can send remote actions via remote commands to devices. Remote commands like Lock, Unlock, Unenroll, or Erase are high priority commands that are generally sent within a few seconds of clicking the button in Jamf Now. An internet connection on the iPad, iPhone, or Mac is required to receive remote commands, and some commands require supervision. Lock

For iPad and iPhone, sending this command puts the device to sleep.

For Mac, the computer restarts and displays a prompt for the six-digit passcode set in Jamf Now.

Unlock

Clears passcodes set on iPad or iPhone.

Note:

If the Prevent Changes to Passcode restriction is enabled on a device, the user will not be prompted to set the new passcode until the restriction is disabled.

Looking to unlock your Mac? If a user has forgotten their password on their Mac, you can use the FileVault 2 decryption key stored in Jamf Now (only available if FileVault is turned on and the key is stored). If FileVault 2 is not enabled, you can use any of the options outlined in If you forgot your Mac login password on Apple's Support website.

Unenroll

Removes the email account assigned to the device by Jamf Now along with any volume purchasing apps and the data stored within them.

Erase

Immediately erases all content on this device.

Erasing an iPad or iPhone means devices are wiped and prompted to run the setup process.

Erasing a Mac means it will be wiped and then require being rebooted in recovery mode to reinstall macOS. For more information, see Erasing and Re-enrolling a Computer

Restart

Restarts devices. Requires iPadOS 10.3 or later, iOS 10.3 or later, or macOS 10.13 or later.

Note:

A Restart command sent to a passcode-locked iPad or iPhone will not reconnect to previously connected Wi-Fi networks.

Shut Down

Shuts down devices. Requires iPadOS 10.3 or later, iOS 10.3 or later, or macOS 10.13 or later.

Lost Mode

Relays the last known iPad or iPhone location in an inventory record and locks the device with a custom message. Requires iOS 9.3 or later.

Edit Name

Changes the device name in the inventory record. If the device is a supervised iPad or iPhone, or a Mac with macOS 10.10 or later, the modified name can be synced to the device.

Change Time Zone

Changes the time zone on an iPad or iPhone. Requires iPadOS 14 or later, or iOS 14 or later.

Note:

The time zone cannot be changed on devices assigned to a Blueprint with the Automatically Set Date and Time restriction enabled.
