Pairing a Device

The Jamf Unlock setup process helps users pair their device with a Mac computer. Users are required to sign in with your organization's cloud identity provider (IdP) and then are prompted to use their device camera to scan a QR code from the Jamf Connect menu bar app to finish pairing the device to the computer.

  • Jamf Unlock must be configured and installed on the user's device.

  • Jamf Connect 2.4.0 or later must be installed on the user's computer.

  1. Open the Jamf Unlock app.
  2. Tap Get Started.
  3. Sign in with your organization's identity provider (IdP), when prompted.

After a successful sign-in, users are prompted to allow Jamf Unlock access to the device camera, location, and Bluetooth. If a user does not allow access, pairing may fail and the user must go to Settings and allow Jamf Unlock access to these services.

  4. In the Jamf Connect menu bar app, go to Paired Devices... > Pair new device.
A window with a QR code displays.
  5. Use the pairing screen in the Jamf Unlock app to scan the QR code.
  6. On your computer, enter your local administrator password when prompted to allow the device pairing.
  7. On your device, tap Finish on the success screen.

The device is successfully paired and the user can start using the app to unlock their Mac.
