Menu Bar App Testing

Complete the following workflows to test the Jamf Connect menu bar app:
  • Sync passwords

  • Get Kerberos tickets

  • Review Menu bar preferences

Syncing Passwords

Jamf Connect performs a periodic network check to ensure that a user's network and local passwords are in sync. Complete the following to test password syncing:

  1. Click the Jamf Connect menu bar in the upper-right of the screen.
  2. Click Connect.
    Note:

    User credentials are read from the macOS keychain. An optional script is shown in our demo to show success or failure. This will not appear by default in production settings.

  3. Open System Preferences.
  4. Click Users & Groups.
  5. Manually change the local password of the current user.
  6. In the Jamf Connect menu bar, click Connect again, and sign in to force a network check.
    Note:

    By default, Jamf Connect performs a network check every 15 minutes.

    A password syncing message displays.
  7. Enter the Jamf-provided identity provider trial password.
Your local password is changed to match the network password.

Getting Kerberos Tickets

Jamf Connect can be integrated with a Kerberos realm to get Kerberos tickets for users.

On the local account that is signed in with Jamf Connect , do one of the following to open the Ticket Viewer application:
  • On macOS 10.14 or earlier, go to /Applications/Utilities.

  • On macOS 10.15 or later, go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications.

A ticket for your test user from the Kerberos realm JAMFSE.IO should display.

If there is no ticket, sign in with Jamf Connect again.

Menu Bar Preferences

The menu bar app allows users to configure some authentication preferences locally. To access this menu, click the Jamf Connect menu bar icon and then click Preferences...
