Pairing a Device User Experience

The Jamf Unlock setup process helps users pair their device with a Mac computer. Users are required to sign in with their organization's cloud identity provider (IdP) and are then prompted to use their device camera to scan a QR code from the Jamf Connect menu bar app which pairs their device to the Mac.

Requirements
  • Jamf Unlock must be configured and installed on the user's device.

  • Jamf Connect 2.7.0 or later must be installed on the user's computer.

  1. Open the Jamf Unlock app.
  2. Tap Log in to Get Started.
  3. Log in to your organization's identity provider (IdP), when prompted.
  4. Tap Get Started.
  5. On the Pair with your Mac screen, the tap Continue to provide Jamf Unlock permission to access Face ID/Touch ID, Wi-Fi, and location, and send notifications. Tap Allow on the associated system prompts.
    Important:

If a user does not enable access/permission, pairing may fail, and the user must go to Settings and allow Jamf Unlock to access these services.

  6. In the Jamf Connect menu bar app on the Mac, go to Paired Devices... > Pair New Device.
A window with a QR code displays.
  7. Hold the Scan QR Code screen in the Jamf Unlock app up to the Mac, scanning the QR code on the Mac.
  8. On the Mac, enter the local administrator password when prompted to allow the device pairing.
  9. On the Pairing complete screen in the Jamf Unlock app, tap Start Using Unlock.
The device is successfully paired and the user can start using the app to unlock their Mac. The user may confirm pairing in the Jamf Connect menu bar app on their Mac under Paired Devices. The successfully paired device is now listed in the Paired Devices window.
