Unmanaging a Single Mobile Device

  1. Log in to Jamf Pro.

  2. Click Devices at the top of the page.

  3. Perform a simple or advanced mobile device search, and click on the target device.
For more information, see the Simple Mobile Device Searches or Advanced Mobile Device Searches sections of the Jamf Pro Administrator's Guide.

  4. Click the Management tab.

  5. Click Unmanage Device.

Note: If you also want the device to be erased, use the Wipe Device command instead. As long as the device is not assigned to an MDM server in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager, it will not enroll into MDM the next time it goes through the Setup Assistant.

  6. Click OK.
Jamf Pro confirms the remote command was sent.

  7. (Optional) Click Delete to delete the device's inventory record from Jamf Pro.

Unmanaging a Group of Mobile Devices

  1. Log in to Jamf Pro.

  2. Navigate to the target device group by clicking either Smart Device Groups or Static Device Groups in the sidebar, and then selecting the target group.
For more information, see the Group Management section of the Jamf Pro Administrator's Guide.

  4. Click Action.

  5. Select Send Remote Commands.

  6. Select Unmanage Institutionally Owned Device. A warning message and text field appears.

Note: If you also want the devices to be erased, use the Wipe Device command instead. As long as the devices are not assigned to an MDM server in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager, they will not automatically enroll into MDM the next time they go through the Setup Assistant.

  7. Confirm that you want to unmanage the devices by typing the number of devices in the text field.

  8. Click Next. A screen appears confirming the remote command was sent.

  9. (Optional) To delete the device inventory records, do the following:

    1. Navigate to the target smart device group or static device group.

    2. Click View.

    3. Click Action.

    4. Select Delete Mobile Devices.

    5. Click Next.
The mobile device records are deleted from Jamf Pro.
