Unmanaging Computers from Jamf Pro

This workflow describes how to remove all components of Jamf Pro from a computer without wiping the computer.

Requirements

Physical or remote access to the target computer

Procedure

  1. (Optional) If the computer was enrolled with a non-removable MDM profile, you must remove the MDM profile via Jamf Pro by doing the following:

    1. Log in to Jamf Pro.

    2. Click Computers.

    3. Search for the target computer.

    4. Click the Management tab.

    5. Click Remove MDM Profile.
The MDM Profile is removed from the computer.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Log in to the target computer and open Terminal.

    • Access the target computer via SSH.

  3. Remove all components installed by Jamf by executing the following command:

    sudo jamf removeFramework

All components installed by Jamf are removed. Jamf Pro will no longer communicate with or perform management tasks on the computer.

  4. (Optional) To delete the device record, do the following:

    1. Log in to Jamf Pro.

    2. Click Computers.

    3. Search for the target computer.

    4. Click Delete.

Note: If the computer is in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager and you do not want it to automatically re-enroll in Jamf Pro the next time it is wiped and goes through the Setup Assistant, you must unassign or release it from Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager. For more information, see Unassigning Devices in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager and Releasing Devices from Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager.
