Configuring Wi-Fi for tvOS Devices

This workflow details the best practices for deploying Wi-Fi configurations for tvOS using a mobile device configuration profile. Configuration profiles are XML files (.mobileconfig) that provide an easy way to define settings and restrictions for tvOS devices. It is recommended that you create a configuration profile that allows devices to automatically join the wireless network. If you are using certificates to authenticate to the network, the respective Certificate or Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol (SCEP) payloads must be configured in the same profile before configuring the WI-FI payload. You can then specify the devices and users to which the profile should be applied (called "scope").

Requirements

If you are using certificates or WPA2 Enterprise as an authentication method, you need:

  • Jamf Pro 9.98 or later

  • Apple TV devices with tvOS 10.2 or later

    1. Enter a display name.

    2. Choose "Install Automatically" from the Distribution Method pop-up menu.

  6. (Optional) If you are using a certificate to authenticate to the network, configure the Certificate or SCEP payloads.

  7. Use the WI-FI payload to configure the following:

    1. Enter your SSID in the Service Set Identifier (SSID) field.

    2. Ensure the Auto Join checkbox is selected to allow devices to automatically join this wireless network.

    3. Choose your wireless network security type from the Security Type pop-up menu.
If prompted, enter the password to your wireless network.
If using an enterprise security type, select the checkboxes of the protocols used by the network.

    4. (Optional) If you are using a certificate to authenticate to the network, choose the certificate from the Identity Certificate pop-up menu.

  8. Click the Scope tab to configure the scope of the profile.
For more information, see the Scope page in the Jamf Pro Administrator's Guide.

  9. Click Save.

The profile is distributed to tvOS devices in the scope the next time they contact Jamf Pro.
