VPP Registration User Experience

The experience that a user has when registering with VPP varies depending on the way that the VPP invitation was sent:

  • Invitation sent via email—The user clicks the URL in the email invitation and, if prompted, enters credentials for their LDAP directory account or a JSS user account. The user then clicks Connect to App Store where they enter their Apple ID, accept the terms and conditions and the privacy policy, and complete the registration process.

  • The user is prompted to accept the invitation—A notification appears on the user’s mobile device prompting them to register with VPP. Invitations sent this way also appear in Self Service for OS X, though prompts do not appear on computers. The user clicks Continue and is connected to the App Store, where they enter their Apple ID, accept the terms and conditions and the privacy policy, and complete the registration process.
The user only needs to accept the VPP invitation on one device, even if the prompt is shown on multiple devices. The user can dismiss an unnecessary prompt by clicking Cancel when the prompt appears.

  • Invitation available in Self Service only—The user opens Self Service Mobile for iOS or Self Service for OS X and clicks VPP Invitations. They are then connected to the App Store where they enter their Apple ID, accept the terms and conditions and the privacy policy, and complete the registration process.

If the user does not accept the VPP invitation immediately, the invitation can still be accepted in Self Service on their computer or mobile device. Self Service Mobile for iOS prompts the user to accept the invitation every time the user opens the app. The invitation can also be accepted in Self Service for OS X by clicking VPP Invitations in the sidebar.

If the user does not accept the VPP invitation and attempts to install an app or eBook assigned to the user through VPP, the user is prompted to accept the VPP invitation before the app or eBook is installed.
